San Francisco riots after Giants win World Series

The Giants' World Series victory elicited joyous cheers from most of San Francisco's fans, but the pent-up celebration turned aggressive in a few crowds Monday night. As fans packed the streets, there were some violent incidents reported such as fires, several fistfights and a mob attack on a vehicle that was driven into a crowd.

KTVU.com posted stunning helicopter footage of a large fire that was started at the intersection of Mission and 22nd streets followed by a driver's attempt to steer into the crowd. The car was stopped, its windshields were smashed and passengers were attacked. Riot police arrived soon after the melee and the crowd began to thin out.

KTVU reported a separate incident where thieves attempted to rob the Dugout, a sports merchandise shop.

The Contra Costa Times reported that an unlawful assembly was officially declared by officers at about 11:30 p.m., but by then most of the fans had cleared from Mission Street.

While media coverage was initially sparse, fans took to online outlets to post their observations, using hashtags like #SFRiot and #SFScanner on Twitter and uploading videos to YouTube. Fans even "checked in" to riots using the social media application Foursquare.

Below, check out video of some of the rioting that took place Monday night.
