Emmitt Thomas, Former Chiefs Great, Inducted Into Texas Sports Hall of Fame

Former Chiefs cornerback Emmitt Thomas, already a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, was recognized by his home state with his induction this week into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.

A native of Angleton, Texas, Thomas went into coaching following a distinguished playing career. He now serves as the secondary coach for Kansas City, the same team he played for from 1966-1978.

He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton 30 years after his playing career ended. Thomas has been in the Chiefs' Hall of Fame since 1986.

Thomas made the Chiefs' roster as an undrafted free agent out of Bishop College and went on to play 181 regular season games in Kansas City over his 13-year career. He finished with a team-record 58 interceptions, the fourth most in NFL history by a pure cornerback.

His seven postseason interceptions are also a team record. In 1974, he had a career-high 12 interceptions, just two off the NFL season record.
