Holmes became the fourth Chiefs running back to be enshrined in the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame this past weekend. Other Chiefs running backs inducted into the state's Hall of Fame are Marcus Allen, who also is in the NFL's Hall of Fame, Christian Okoye and Curtis McClinton.
"Priest's tremendous work ethic and perseverance took him from unheralded beginnings as an undrafted free agent to one of the most electrifying and productive offensive players to ever play for the Chiefs," Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said in a statement. "On behalf of my family and the entire Chiefs organization, we congratulate Priest on this well-deserved honor."
Holmes originally joined the Chiefs in 2001 as a free agent from Baltimore. He played in 65 regular season games for the Chiefs, starting 63. In 2002, he earned NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors by The Associated Press after running for 1,615 rushing yards in 14 games. Holmes led the league in rushing during his inaugural season in Kansas City when he had 1,555 yards.
He ranks second in Chiefs history with 24 100-yard rushing games, including a single-game postseason team record 176 yards in a 2004 playoff game against Indianapolis.
