Report: Jose Guillen Left Off Giants Playoff Roster Because of HGH Link

Jose GuillenThe Giants kept Jose Guillen off of their playoff roster after they were alerted, via Major League Baseball, to a federal investigation centered on the outfielder, according to the New York Times.

Days before the start of the postseason, federal investigators informed MLB that they were looking into shipments of human growth hormone delivered to Guillen's wife. According to the report, MLB officials then recommended to the Giants that they consider leaving him off their postseason roster.

The Giants did just that, putting Aaron Rowand on the roster instead of Guillen, despite the fact that Guillen played more for San Francisco down the stretch.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy told FanHouse before the start of the Division Series against the Braves that a sore neck was the reason for keeping him off the roster. A Giants spokesman declined to comment on the story to FanHouse during Game 2 of the World Series.
