Kitna may have thrown four interceptions in his first start as Cowboys quarterback in place of the injured Tony Romo. But he also threw for 379 yards. And after his last interception, it was he who ran cornerback Rashean Mathis out of bounds on the return. He hustled. He tried. He physically prevented a Jacksonville Jaguar from moving forward with the ball in his hands. And that was more than he could say for just about anybody on the Cowboys' pitiful defense in the 35-17 home loss that dropped the preseason Super Bowl favorites to 1-6 for the season.
"It was strange when it started," Cowboys defensive end Marcus Spears said of the defense's poor performance this season. "But now it's just our M.O. I mean, this is kind of who we are, and that's about it."
